Ethnic Communality and Conflict Resolution

Ethnicity is defined as a way of typifying the world, and as such it is a way to form a community. Ethnic conflicts, however, are characterized by the emphasis on ethnic criteria as a foundation for communality, by closed off ethnic narratives as well as by the practices of ethnocraft through which a coherent identity of the ethnic group is maintained. Conflict resolution in dialogic communities offers a means of dealing with these, because the dialogic community brings about a constructive shared search for knowledge of the conflict in question through conversation. Furthermore, conflict resolution in dialogic communities with the help of the third party provides a means to get involved in projecting and imagining alternative communities, new ways to unite with people.
